Yo Dawg, We Put a Race Car Game on Yo Race Car

As part of our neverending mission to tell you what video game is now turning left four times at 100 mph on Saturday tonight, let's check in with Joey Logano and the No. 20 GameStop Toyota.

GameStop, which has a 21-race sponsorship deal with the NASCAR driver in the lower-run Nationwide Series, put Split/Second on Logano's hood for something called the Bubba Burger 250 tomorrow tonight (dangit) at Richmond International Raceway. Split/Second is actually something Logano has played.

“You have to use real racing skills like drafting, just like you do on the track most weekends,” Logano said, “but then you also have to think about planning a strategy to wreck the other cars and the courses so you can win.” Just like you do on the track most weekends, amirite?

Logano opened the series with a seventh place finish at Daytona (that's not the 500, btw), with BioShock 2 on his hood, then took the pole but finished fifth with Mario Kart Wiion the lid. Tomorrow's race is 7:45 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2, if that's your thing. Whoops, this sucker ran tonight. Too late. Brad Keselowski won. Joey finished 6th. Goshdangit!

A bientôt

Want a Nintendo Wii and need an excuse to buy one? Here's an great excuse, it is a great diet aid. It can help you get the exercise you need to loose weight.

Are you shaking your head? Maybe you won't be after reading this. According to an article on newstarget.com a man by the name of Mickey DeLorenzo has lost weight just by playing his Wii. He didn't change any of his other daily habits.

He just played the sports DVD that comes with the Wii machine daily for a thirty minute session. The sports CD houses five different virtual games you play with your Wii remote. These games are bowling, golf, baseball, tennis and boxing.

Mr. DeLorenzo called his experiment “Wii Sports Experiment”. The games he has been playing has been the baseball, tennis and the boxing.

How much did he loose? Since starting the experiment on December 9th 2006, he has lost 9 pounds, in six weeks. His starting weight was 181 and now he is down to 171. For many people that would be a dream.

He used a body fat caliper to measure his body fat. He estimated that he lost about two percent of his body fat. He also realized that his resting heart rate fell ten points. But more amazingly is the fact that before the experiment his body mass index was 25.2 (considered in the overweight category) and it fell to 24 (within normal range) after the experiment.

Which games seem to burn the most calories? Not so surprisingly, boxing burn the most calories. A fifthteen minute game of punching and jabbing can burn about 125 calories. Tennis is also a pretty good calorie burner, if you play aggressively for about fifthteen minutes. It will help you to burn 92 calories. Surprisingly, even bowling will help you to burn calories. You can loose about 77 calories playing it for about fifthteen minutes. A person weighing about 190 pounds who would play a real game of bowling at their local bowling alley for an hour would burn about 250 calories according to www.shapefit.com. That would mean you could actually burn more calories bowling at home with your Wii.

Mr. DeLorenzo began his experiment after playing a game of boxing with his girlfriend and realizing that he was actually sweating. Then he came up with this brilliant plan for those of us who hates real exercise and likes playing games. He decided to play his Wii everyday and see if he actually lost weight. He even set up a blog at WiiNintendo.net and charted his progress for others. He even was brave enough to post a before and after picture of himself.

What is in store for Mr. DeLorenzo for the future, plenty more video games, I am sure. Plus, he has bought his own website WiiWorkout.net where he plans to continue charting his fitness progress and maybe even adding some weights to his routine, so he doesn't become to skinny.

What about the rest of us? Well, does your family love playing video games? Does your family eat too much junk food and not get enough exercise? Do you like beating games? Do you think you might like playing tennis, boxing, baseball or even bowling virtually? If you answered yes to these questions, maybe you should think about purchasing a Wii.

The Nintendo Fusion Tour came to New York City today and let the gaming public get their hands on Wii for the very first time. Eight Wii demo kiosks were set up throughout the Nintendo World Store and let a large, eager crowd get hands on time with both the Wii remote and a selection of titles for the system as well. First party titles on hand included Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Excite Truck, the Duck Hunt demo (still not confirmed for commercial release), and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which had by far the largest number of fans waiting in line to play. Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam was also playable. Associated Content was on hand to see what Wii was all about.

Each demo station was manned by a Nintendo employee who helped walk players through how to use Wii’s unique control features and to introduce them to the hardware itself. Everything Wii is small and simple; the remote fits comfortably inside the palm of your hand, the nunchuck is light but not flimsy, the console is sleek and doesn’t take up much space, and the sensor bar used to detect the remote’s motions is totally unobtrusive. It really is surprising how small the controller is the first time you see and hold it. Comparisons to television remote controls end with a visual impression, the “wiimote” is something wholly unique in feel. There has been some talk in recent weeks about whether or not the Wii remote will still feature rumble and Associated Content can definitively say that, yes, rumble is still a feature in the controller. What is most impressive about Wii though, is that gameplay with the remote is every bit as different and intuitive as Nintendo has promised.

Wii Sports, a collection of basic sports games that comes packaged with Wii, is a fine showcase for the controller. Gameplay in Wii Golf and Wii Bowling in particular is remarkably instinctive; the player swings a “club” or rolls a “ball” and their actions are mimicked immediately by the onscreen avatar. Wii Tennis requires a certain amount of patience when learning how to connect with the ball onscreen, but the actions required to play are just as natural as those in the other sports games.

Excite Truck is also a joy to play. The remote is held with two hands like a classic NES pad, the “2” button is pressed to accelerate, and all steering is handled by tilting the controller in the direction a player wants to go. The game is fast, exciting, and as easy to pick up, play, and understand as the original Excite Bike. Though the visuals in Excite Truck aren’t necessarily on par with driving games on the Xbox 360, they are still gorgeous and a marked improvement over what’s been seen on the Gamecube.

Mertroid Prime 3: Corruption, while impressive in many ways, was the one game on show at the Fusion Tour that did not prove that play with the freehand style controller is necessarily superior to play with a traditional controller. The free aiming in Metroid still requires polish as the game lost track of the controller a handful of times. Control otherwise is largely similar to the Gamecube Metroid titles, utilizing the “Z” button for targeting, the analogue stick for movement, etc. Gameplay features such as “throwing” out the grappling hook by thrusting the nunchuck forward seemed somewhat gimmicky and unessential. The game isn’t set to release until 2007 so there’s still plenty of time to perfect it for the Wii remote.

All in all, the Fusion Tour in New York was a true success. Everyone in attendance enjoyed their time with Wii quite a bit and the players, while skewed young as it was held during a work day, were made up of both men and most importantly women, a demographic Nintendo is looking to capture with Wii. November 19th is starting to look like it will be one of, if not the, most important days in Nintendo’s storied history.

Nintendo Wii represents a gaming device that issued forth into prominence at the time, when people were demanding of a different sort of gaming all together. It is because the excitement and enjoyment related to both the outdoor & indoor versions of gaming were limited to an extent, while people wanted to get out of this shadow and experience something different, but at the same time very realistic and extremely thrilling. Nintendo Wii was one gaming machine that can be hailed as the pioneer, of the entire gaming revolution. A seventh generation gaming console is loaded with all kinds of state-of-the-art technologies and latest features. This makes up the main reason why this compact, lightweight gaming machine is posing a serious threat to the other leading existing gaming machine manufacturing companies such as Sony, Xbox and many others. Being lightweight, it allows its user to carry it from one place to another, without any problem. The 512 MBs internal flash memory is the main USP of this gaming gadget.

Acquirable at an astonishingly low price, this inexpensive Nintendo Wii boasts of having some of the most fine connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which speaks volumes of the extraordinary capabilities of this gaming machine, when it comes to delivering impeccable performance at any time of the day. That's not all, Nintendo, as a leading gaming machine manufacturer has not restricted itself just to manufacturing Nintendo Wii only. In fact they have gone a step ahead, and have come up with Nintendo DS, a hand held gaming device that has redefined the gaming yet again. This gaming widget, Nintendo DS, has been specially manufactured to provide to the demands of the gaming freaks, who like to be hooked on gaming, even while they are on move. Nintendo Wii was specially made keeping in mind the needs and demand of the school and college going kids. Both Nintendo Wii & Nintendo DS allow the user to play a wide range of games of any type. The goodwill and the respect that Nintendo, as a game manufacturer commands in its customers, is the premier reason why more and more people still prefer it over others brands. They know if they purchase Nintendo's any product, they will end up on a profitable note.

The thing about Wii MotionPlus is that there haven't been a whole lot of games supporting it. Outside of last summer's Wii Sports Resort (and upcoming Red Steel 2 and Flingsmash) there's really only some sports games utilizing the tech. According to a recent interview with Reggie over at MTV Multiplayer, it's because Nintendo isn't really pushing for any kind of control scheme from third parties.

“What's unique with Nintendo is we don't force our developers to stick to a particular type of control scheme, and you've seen that — everything from the new Metroid title to be single remote driven to FlingSmash utilizing the Wii MotionPlus,” he said. “So it's all about what's right for the game.” While we're inclined to agree with the latter part, we still wonder why nothing is using MotionPlus — especially since it's something that greatly improves the core functionality of the Wiimote. And considering almost everyone has MotionPlus by now (or soon will, if they're Walmart shoppers looking for a great bundle), why not develop with MotionPlus in mind?

As for more MotionPlus games from Nintendo, Reggie teases “more titles that are coming” and that it “continues to be a core part of what we do.” So, the take away is this: even though Nintendo just released a new piece of hardware, it's not too worried about supporting it with content — kinda like every other peripheral the company has ever released. Yeah, we're talking about you, Wii Speak!

Guess Which Nintendo Game Spore's Creator Plays Most In His Life

Speaking to a packed house at the conclusion of the Game Developers Conference this weekend, famed game developer Will Wright told the crowd he plays a Nintendo game everyone morning to kick off his day.

Every morning, Wright said, he gets up and has a cup of coffee.

“While I drink my coffee I pull out my DS and play Advance Wars,” he said. “I've played that game more than any other in my life. I love Advance Wars, it lets me relax while I spin up my brain.”

Wright said it takes about 15 minutes of Advance Wars play to boot up his brain every morning.
